Today at the Car
Dave Burns and Craig Fransen made a site visit to take some more measurements and photos to complete documenting the current state of our two walls. The right wall has been exposed down to the framing while the left wall remains intact.
We remain encouraged by the state of the framing. Coupled with the fact that the floor was reported to be in sound condition, this may mean a much less extensive restoration here.
The LeMay Family Collection at Marymount had a huge turnout today. FREE entrance to the facility for our veterans. Whenever the lights are on in the dining car, visitors love to peak in the windows or pop their head in the door to see what the interior looks like. Dave turns nobody away and enjoyed showing the car and answering questions to the curious. Everyone was very impressed with the project and all were very excited to hear that Dining Car 1663 will eventually serve as a functioning diner again (at Marymount) once the restoration work is complete.
Our next big task is to make necessary adjustments to the car to make it absolutely level. It is close, but fine tuning must be done prior to proceeding with any further work.
